Associate Designer
CROSBY is hiring an Associate Designer, who will report to our Technical Design and Production Manager, and work closely with CEO and Head of Design, Mollie Burch. This role is high visibility, working directly with the CEO, CFO, and COO on different steps in the design and production process.
The Associate Designer will have a hand in both the concept and technical design processes of the company. Details on each of these responsibilities are outlined below. While these are the primary responsibilities, CROSBY is a nimble team that will require a proactive and agile individual for this role given the dynamic nature of the fashion industry.
What you’ll do:
- Support steps in the full design process
- Research ideas for new bodies, prints, trims, and other design details
- Work directly with Mollie to conceptualize inspiration, color and print direction, and a merchandise plan for each new collection
- Source fabric and materials for each collection, communicating with suppliers and manufacturers
- Coordinate fabric strike-off and sampling process
- Manage fabric organization
- Sketch new body concepts in early stages of collection development
- Prep collection for development, building the collection overview and drawing all technical flats including front, back and any details
- Assist print development from ideation, artwork repeat, to file prep
- Manage design files (strike-off tracking, library sketches, etc.)
- Manage deadlines internally (within design and cross-functionally)
- Review TOPs for fabric, print, and care labels
- Support tech pack development
- Draft initial tech pack with the technical sketch
- Create linesheet for each collection upon receiving the collection overview
- Check-in, measure, and steam samples for fittings
- Attend all fittings, refining fit and capturing all sample comments
- Support tech designer in any adjustments to tech packs
Who you are:
- A college graduate with a degree in a related field
- You have experience in Excel and the Adobe Suite with proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop
- You are skilled with print design and can develop and execute seamless repeat patterns
- Possess a keen aesthetic sense and a proven ability to transform creative ideas into full-package garments
- You have strong initiative, high energy, strategic thinking and are very detail-oriented
- You have polished verbal and written communication skills
- You have a strong ability to prioritize, focus and provide complete follow through on all aspects of responsibility
- You are willing to learn, have a strong work ethic and sense of urgency
